Welcome to Underley Garden School

Underley Garden School is a residential independent special school for pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, severe and complex learning needs and challenging behaviour.

Underley Garden School is situated near the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale on the Lancashire/Cumbria/North Yorkshire border. The school was purpose built in 1990 as a co-educational residential school and is located in the grounds of Underley Hall which houses a special (EBD) school. Underley Garden School has two adjacent sites, ‘The Orchard Site’ and ‘The Garden Site’. ‘The Orchard Site’ was developed in 2003/2004 and is committed to providing for young people with complex and diverse needs including severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviour, on the autistic spectrum and performing below and up to level 2 of the National Curriculum. A particular feature of this specialist site is the provision of classroom and residential facilities for young people aged aged 9 -19 years following a 24 hour curriculum. The Garden Site’ continues to offer high quality provision for boys and girls with communication, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Underley Garden School offers a comprehensive portfolio of education, therapy and care to meet the individual requirements of young people with special needs and challenging behaviour. We aim to enable pupils to achieve their full potential by offering a 24 hour curriculum based on the principles of care, tolerance, praise and high expectations associated with clear learning goals.
